Arts and Crafts silver and carnelian nautilus Brooch

$150.00

A nicely cast sterling silver band of nautilus shells surrounds an oval, semi-translucent piece of gorgeous carnelian in this Arts and Crafts brooch presented here. I have had this piece for a little while and was reluctant to part with it because of its tactile beauty, its warm patina and the color of the stone that brings to mind warm, aromatic caramel. I am assuming this is a native, US-made brooch because it is simply marked for metal quality and I suspect it is a studio-made pin. I just wish its maker had signed their name...

Size / Weight: 2 1/2" long by 1 1/2" tall; 22.9 grams

Hallmarks / Date: simply marked "STERLING"; 1900- 1920s

Condition: excellent vintage with beguiling body, captivating swirls and a yummy stone, with nice patina and no damage noted - I think the roll-over clasp of the pin is a replacement (the original would have been a hook) but it has been done discretely and does not affect the piece's presentation
