A smashing duo in the index of mid-20th century Mexican jewelry design, Cecilia and Tono have created some of the most amazing pieces. More often than not their creations are re-interpretations of ancient motifs with a modernist twist and adaptations of old techniques and materials to fit their contemporary vision. In the long chain necklace presented here hefty sterling links lend their mod geometry to silver spheres and rich azur-malachite beads that have been cut in emulation of ancient bi-cone ones. Over the years of my love-affair with vintage Mexican silver jewelry, I have come to "discover" and become enamored of the superb work created by artists whose names are not necessarily among the first ones a new collector focuses on. Size / Weight: 32 1/2" long by 3/8" wide (the width of the sterling geometric links); 69.6 grams

Hallmarks / Date: "Cecilia" and "Tono" in script as well as "STERLING TAXCO 925" and des. no 92; I don't see an Eagle mark so I will suggest mid-1940s to 1948

Condition: excellent vintage with good length, warm patina, rich, saturated colors in the azur-malachite beads and no damage or repairs noted
