classic Mexican Deco silver and amethyst Necklace

$0.00
SOLD

Set with rich, saturated purple amethyst cabochons the repousse stations making up this classy Mexican Deco silver necklace are usually associated with Fred Davis but the beauty at hand was not signed by her maker. This is, of course, a more interesting variation of the classic “bead and stone” version and it appears luxurious with its warmly glistening sculptural links and the stunning amethysts. Early Mexican craftsmanship, years of being enjoyed and lovingly being cared for and that aura of nostalgia for an - more than often idealized - happy past come together in a necklace that defies the whims of time and fashion…

Size / Weight: 17 3/4” long (easily lengthened with a simple sterling extension) by 1 1/4” wide; 56.1 grams

Hallmarks / Date: simply marked “MEXICO” on the hook of the clasp yet tested and guaranteed to be solid silver, most probably sterling; pre-1948

Condition: very good vintage with the occasional, expected light impression here and there that does not register at all, with the patina that only a well-loved, well-cared-for piece of jewelry develops, stunning color in the amethysts and no unsightly damage or repairs noted
