Gerardo Lopez Mexican silver repousse figural Pin Brooch ~ Thai goddess

$0.00
SOLD

Serene in her deep meditative state, this vintage Gerardo Lopez Mexican silver repousse “goddess” brooch is undoubtedly inspired by the Los Castillo / Margot de Taxco “Thai dancers” parure. Though the necklace and bracelet of that design do come up from time to time, I have never seen a full-blown pin and I am excited for this discovery. Meticulously worked, the repoussage is detailed and crisp with the oxidation that has developed in the recesses rendering it more sculptural. To my eyes, the figure looks androgynous, quietly eschewing the divide between male and female, and it glows with the patina of a well-loved, well-taken-care-of yet still enjoyed piece of jewelry…

Size / Weight: 3″ tall by 1 3/8″ wide; 19.4 grams

Hallmarks / Date: fully signed with maker’s name as shown as well as “STERLING TAXCO” and Eagle 26 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with rich, crisp detail in the masterful repoussage, fantastic patina and no damage or repairs noted
