German Jugendstil silver and chrysoprase roses Pendant Necklace

SOLD

Wrought in .800 silver and adorned with a chrysoprase cabochon, this repousse roses pendant is even closer to the work of Martin Mayer than the “roses” brooch also available on the site ( you can see the two pieces together in one of the photos provided). Here too the flowers have been rendered in such a sculptural way one is constantly tempted to touch and feel their voluptuous presence. I love the way the patina of time enhances their body and could not find a better suited stone to center the pendant than its semi-translucent, fresh green chrysoprase. The pendant is accompanied by a sterling silver chain, a little later in terms of vintage yet a perfect match in terms of style and proportions, so you can enjoy it as a necklace right away...

Size / Weight: pendant is 1 3/4" tall (without the bail) by 1 3/16" wide; with the bail it adds a 1 7/8" drop to the chain which is, itself, 18 1/2" long; 7.8 grams (for the set)

Hallmarks / Date: partly marked as shown; tested and guaranteed to be silver, most probably of .800 purity as was the standard in Germany at the time; ca 1900

Condition: excellent vintage, with beautifully executed repoussage, an eye-catching stone and great patina; no damage and no repairs noted
