Hubert Harmon Mexican silver Brooch with cascabela

$0.00
SOLD

Educated at the Parson’s School of Design in Paris, Hubert Harmon was as talented a designer as he was an eccentric personality. His path crossed with that of Mexico’s 20th c. Silver Renaissance in 1941, when he moved there and for a short period became part of the Taxco and later the Mexico City scenes. His jewelry, difficult to find and highly sought after, reflects his idiosyncratic nature; there is always a tongue-in-cheek air about it and a certain degree of “whimsy”, if I am allowed the word. The brooch at hand, wrought en repoussage, looks like an archer’s shooting target yet the little cascabela hanging off it tempers the implied use of force with the promise of musical fun…

Size / Weight: 1 3/16” in diameter; 7.4 grams

Hallmarks / Date: fully marked with Harmon’s winged feet signature as well as “HUBERT HARMON MADE IN MEXICO STERLING”; 1944-48

Condition: excellent vintage, fun and playful, with great patina and no damage or repairs noted except for two very small openings in the silver which are part of the crafting process and not incurred afterwards - they are very hard to spot with a naked eye and do not offend at all
