Perfect for the black turtlenecks and heavy coats of winter this vintage Mexican Deco silver and turquoise bird of paradise brooch is a stupendous work of art! Not only does its sheer size stun the eye, its layered sculpturality and curvaceous repoussage invites the touch and allows the light to play a thousand tricks hiding in its recesses and reflecting off its elevations. I was always a big fan of brooches and my focus on Mexican jewelry has rewarded me a myriad times over the years with amazing examples of the form. Before I let you enjoy the photos, let me just point out the voluptuous body of the repousse flowers and the splashes of blue and green that the stones present against the warm glow of the silver...

Size / Weight: 5 3/4" tall by 2 5/8" wide; 36.8 grams

Hallmarks / Date: "SILVER" and "MADE IN MEXICO"; pre-1948

Condition: very good vintage with breath-taking size, beautiful, confident repoussage and gorgeous patina; no damage and no repairs noted but I would like to mention a small opening in the silver-work right at the point where the bird's neck meets the uppermost wing - it is not easy to spot with a naked eye, most probably a result of the piece's crafting process and such a testimony to the story of its creation
