Martinez Piedra y Plata Mexican silver and azur-malachite Pin Pendant

$290.00

An inspired lapidary and an ingenious designer Felipe Martinez opened his workshop “Piedra y Plata” in 1950. His work is a testament to his exceptional talent and his commitment to impeccable craftsmanship and the use of choice materials. I love all his jewelry but I believe that he was at its best working within the confines of modernism which he enriched with references to Mexico’s archeological past. Piedra y plata, silver and stone, come together here in perfect union, the soft glow of the metal deepened by the saturated greens and dark dark blues in the azur-malachite cabochon. Wear it as a brooch or enjoy it as a pendant paired with your favorite vintage chain - this little treasure will make you proud each and every time…

Size / Weight: 2 1/8” tall by 1 3/8” wide; 25.6 grams

Hallmarks / Date: fully signed with maker’s and workshop’s names, “STERLING TAXCO” and des. no 170 alongside Eagle 3 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with a beautiful stone, gorgeous patina, featuring a minimalist floral motif, with no damage and no repairs noted; please note that the actual pin part of the clasp is made of silver-plated metal which has lost some of its plating over the years but that does not affect presentation as it is on the back of the piece
