Matl Matilde Poulat Mexican 980 silver cross with angels and doves Pendant Necklace

It looks like this is a Matl year for One Good Eye Silver and I couldn't be happier about it! A few months ago I presented a Deco Matilde Poulat cross pendant necklace with kneeling angels and today I am featuring another, possibly earlier, variation of the design but this one wrought in fine, .980 silver. There are some additional motifs to the candle-holding celestial beings and the "jewels" in the pendant at hand - the cross is flanked by repousse little doves fluttering above its two arms and instead of amethysts, there is salmon and red coral joining the teardrop turquoise. The hand-wrought sterling chain that completes the necklace is also Mexican, from Taxco's middle period, and a perfect match in terms of proportions and patina. Matilde's jewelry does not wane in its popularity and examples like this have become more difficult to find so if you have been looking for one, here is your opportunity...

Size / Weight: cross pendant is 3" tall (without the bail) by 1 15/16" wide; with the bail it adds a 3 1/4" drop to the chain; chain itself is 25 1/2" long; 36.1 grams (for the set)

Hallmarks / Date: "Matl 0.980" on an applied tab as shown on the pendant; chain bears Eagle 3 assay mark and partial "TAXCO" and maker's hallmarks; pre-1948 for pendant, 1950s-60s for chain

Condition: excellent vintage with a gorgeous color combination that is accentuated by oxidation and patina, great presence and beautiful craftsmanship, with no damage and no repairs noted
