Mexican Deco silver koi fish Necklace

SOLD

One of the Mexican designs inspired by Far Eastern cultures, the koi fish are a signature creation of Margot de Taxco and the Los Castillo yet its popularity prompted many of their "less celebrated" or anonymous contemporary maestros to come up with their own versions of it. And thankfully so because one can now find a beautiful example by a talented maker without having to break the bank - or at least not in a truly dramatic way! The all-silver necklace at hand is just such a welcome find. Very nicely made, with all its applique koi fish couples frolicking around the repousse semi-spheres that carry them, with its warmly glowing patina and very nice finishing, it is a classy piece that will stay with you for ever...

Size / Weight: 15" long (wearable; laid out flat it is just shy of 15 1/2" - could accept a simple extender to make it longer); 1 1/8" wide; 75.6 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials as shown as well as "MEXICO STERLING"; pre-1948

Condition: excellent vintage with no damage or any repairs noted, fantastic patina, very rich, crisp detail in the koi fish appliques that are all present and securely set in place
