Mexican modernist silver and azur-malachite Necklace Earrings set

$0.00
SOLD

A substantial set from Taxco's "middle period", this stunning necklace and earrings demi combines chunky cylinders of azur-malachite with shadow-box sterling box links. The result is quite impressive as the primarily green hues of the stone (the malachite is predominant here) are tempered by the variegated brown of the inclusions, all colors finally reflected in the glowing silver. I love a good chain necklace and this example combines comfortable length with a presence that will never go unnoticed. The earrings are playful and I really like the "dimpled dot" semi-sphere at the top. Mexican mid-century design with definite allusions to the country's rich archeological past...

Size / Weight: 18 1/4" long (wearable; end-to-end is 18 3/4") for the necklace by 3/8" wide (the width of the silver links); earrings are 2" long by 3/8" wide; 92.7 grams (for the set; 77.8 grams for necklace and 14.9 grams for earrings)

Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials "MCS" as well as "MEXICO" and Eagle 3 assay mark on necklace; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with great presence, beautiful colors in the stone, chunky silver-work, warm patina and no damage or repairs noted
