retro sterling silver and moonglow lucite Ring

$95.00

Very evocative of the Arts and Crafts style but most probably made in the 1940s, this elegant sterling silver ring is adorned with a pearlescent purple moonglow lucite “stone”. This type of luxurious plastic was very popular in the 1940s and extensively used in the world of costume jewelry so I think it’s an exciting surprise to find a sterling ring set with it. Please note the detail in the layers of leaves that form the shoulders, the tiny lozenges and linear designs enhancing the bezel. But the piece-de-resistance is the shimmering glow of the purple lucite…

Size / Weight: sz 5 US (easily resizable by your jeweler); face is 7/8” N-S by 5/8” E-W with a rise of approx. 5/16”; 7.9 grams

Hallmarks / Date: simply marked “STERLING” as shown; 1940s

Condition: excellent vintage with great patina, very good detail in the setting’s foliate design, a yummy moonglow lucite, with no damage and no repairs noted; please note that the ring is ever so slightly out of round but it doesn’t affect the way it wears or looks and it can be easily corrected
