Salvador Teran Mexican silver "crouching man" Earrings

$0.00
SOLD

Signed by my favorite Mexican modernist, this set of Salvador Teran earrings in the so-called "crouching man" design combines sterling, strategically placed oxidation and richly speckled azur-malachite stones. I consider Teran a true genius - his jewelry has that inner power that holds the gaze and the imagination captive and sends them on surreal journeys into worlds familiar and at the same time strange and wondrous. Based on ancient Mesoamerican motifs that the maestro re-interprets in unexpected ways, Salvador's jewelry is becoming all the more difficult to get but in all honesty, aren't they worth the extra effort?

Size / Weight: just above 1 3/4" long by 7/8" wide; 25.8 grams (for the set)

Hallmarks / Date: fully signed as shown with Teran's signature in script, "STERLING MEXICO" and des. no 105; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with strong patina, gorgeous, richly colored stones and its oxidation in good shape as well; no damage and no repairs noted; upon very close inspection under the loupe (here also visible thanks to the macro lens) I believe I see tiny remnants of a previously applied anti-tarnish layer; it is almost entirely gone and the remainders are for all intents and purposes inconspicuous to the naked eye thus not affecting presentation at all
